Use of pelletized feed to animals promotes higher feed intake, better conversion ratio and feed digestibility which is linked with the structure of pellets because all nutrients are available faster to the animals after consumption.
Animals performance and feed efficiency is excellent when pelletized feed is used but it is not always easy to make a good quality pellet.
Researches has compared the feeding efficiency of mash, pellets, and reground pellets, found that with broilers growth response was lost when pellets were reground.
Good quality pellets also has the following benefits: –

Pelletized broilers feed has advantages in overall carcass weight, carcass yield, total breast meat weight, and total meat yield. Feeding broilers diets as low-quality pellets result in low carcass and breast meat yields compared to birds provided diets as high-quality pellets.
Pelleting process may affect the nutritional value of the feed, overheating of the mash during pelletization can destroy vitamins, enzymes and other ingredients. It can also increase fibre solubility and nutrient digestibility. This major challenge can affect farmers and feed millers to produce good quality pellets.
At the time of production a process control must be put in place to maintain good quality pelletized feeds.
Pelleting process have a great impact on the best feed conversion of the animal resulting in lowering cost of production, therefore feedmills need to adjust the pelleting process according to the raw materials included in the feed for feed efficiency.
